YAM+ Programmatic Advertising Platform
Role: Software Engineer
Built the self-serve campaign manager for YAM+, Yahoo’s cross-device programmatic advertising platform: the tool advertisers and publishers used to launch and run video ad campaigns across Yahoo’s properties and its distributed ad network.
How It Worked
An advertiser sets up a campaign in the manager I built. When someone visits a site in Yahoo’s network, that event triggers real-time bidding across advertisers, and the winning ad shows in sub-millisecond time. All of this ran at Yahoo’s actual traffic: billions of ad requests a day, across distributed data centers, with the uptime a revenue platform demands.
What I Built
The bidding engine and campaign infrastructure in Java and Scala, the campaign manager itself in EmberJS, with MySQL underneath and Jenkins running the pipeline.
Result
Advertisers and publishers could launch and manage video campaigns themselves, without going through an internal team for every change: a real self-serve product sitting on top of Yahoo’s ad infrastructure.
